Putting the Right Tools to Work

Depending on your needs or your child’s needs, I may employ one or more of the following treatments in our work together.
Parent-Child
Interaction Therapy

PCIT is an evidence-based therapeutic approach that improves parent-child relationships and addresses behavioral and emotional issues in young children by coaching parents in effective interactions with their child.

Cognitive Behavioral
Therapy

CBT is an approach that helps individuals identify and change negative thought and behavior patterns to address a range of issues. It works by helping to identify and challenge negative thoughts, and replace them with more realistic and helpful ones.

Acceptance &
Commitment Therapy
ACT combines mindfulness and behavior change strategies to help people develop psychological flexibility by accepting their thoughts and feelings and committing to actions aligned with their values and goals.
Exposure &
Response Prevention

ERP is a specialized CBT therapy for OCD. It involves gradually exposing individuals to their obsessions and fears while preventing compulsive rituals, helping them learn to tolerate distress and reduce compulsive behaviors.

Executive Functioning
Skill-Building

This is a set of abilities and strategies that help people manage tasks, organize their thoughts, and regulate their emotions. These skills include time management, working memory, self-control, and problem-solving.

Parent-Focused
Therapy

I use Parent Management Training to address defiance, refusal, and acting out, SPACE Treatment to address parenting an anxious child, and Parent Psychotherapy to help parents explore how their own upbringing may be impacting their responses to their child.

Parent-Child Relational
Assessments (Birth-Age 6)

If you’re unsure whether you or your child needs help, start here. I will assess your child’s development and your relationship in 3-5 appointments to create a treatment plan with priority goals.

Reflective Consultation
& Supervision

Supervision and consultation for mental health professionals seeking a reflective perspective, or for those seeking or maintaining Infant Mental Health Endorsement.

Animal-Assisted
Therapy

Animal-assisted therapy with Bear helps clients practice stress management, reduce anxiety, and engage in positive social interactions. He provides comfort and regulation during sessions.

Questions on how I work with you or your child?

Parents Are Part of the Solution

As I work with your child, there’s one other key player that profoundly impacts the success of our work together: You, the parent. When each of us is fully committed to and engaged in the process of healing, treatment is more effective, and we show your child we believe in the work—and in them.

I also offer parent psychotherapy to build your confidence, equip you with skills and strategies, and deepen your role in your child’s mental health.

My Process

STEP 1:

Getting Started

The first 2-4 sessions will involve building a warm relationship with you and your child, thoroughly assessing your concerns, and clarifying any mental health diagnoses.

STEP 2:

Making a Plan

Next, we'll formalize the treatment plan in 1-2 sessions. We'll set goals, clarify therapy approach, estimate duration, decide who participates, schedule frequency, and plan for termination. We'll review the plan every 3-6 months and adjust as needed. If your child attends sessions alone, expect periodic parent-only sessions to review the plan.

STEP 3:

Doing the Work

The active phase of treatment will take as few or as many sessions as needed to carry out the treatment plan we created.

STEP 4:

Wrapping Up

In the final sessions, we discuss how to end therapy, whether by spacing out sessions or having a clear ending. We always discuss what to do if your child needs to return. I try to prioritize scheduling families and children I have an established relationship with, but sometimes I refer to other professionals who may be a better fit.
